The beginning of our story

How many people wonder what they’d do if they were able to just stop working and have adventures! This also means a change oflifestyle, one without the normal stresses and strains of life today.   Becabuse for most people, it is later in life when they can reap the rewards of their focus on career and work to even contemplate this. This is the beginning of our story. 

With the stress of working life behind them, many people still have abundant energy and an adventurous spirit. This is what we’ve done, and why we are now travelling through Europe on an extended road trip with new experiences every day.

This blog is about having adventures and we aim to answer the questions we all have and give you a hands-on traveller’s guide with handy hints and tips on how to plan your travels. We’ll also share with you how we’ve optimised our luggage by using the technology, gadgets and innovations available to you.

Lifestyle

There are so many days, months and even years that we consider what we would do when…

Is this something familiar to you? Questions you ask yourself about what you would do when some significant change happens in your life.  Is it always delayed because of something that may not be quite perfect for you to make the changes you need to improve your lifestyle?  There never is a perfect time or perfect scenario.  It’s making the decisions that include some compromises to allow you to enjoy your twilight years doing the things that you have wanted to for many years.

After working in a high-pressure environment, Bryan and I decided it was time to make some changes in our lives.  We were concerned about the stress levels impacting our health with long term damage.  We reached a fork in the road of life where were given some choices and had to decide on what fork we were going to go down.  The choices included some compromises which weremainly relinquishing materialistic items.  So after very little deliberation, we agreed to relinquish these to have the luxury of a new and healthier lifestyle.

Decisions

The decisions made to start our new life were not made in a short timeframe.  Lots of financial planning had to be done to ensure that our semi-retirement or full retirement plans could be implemented and sustained with our standard of living maintained or improved.  As much as finances are obviously important, it’s also important to look at the immeasurable benefits of the work/life balance and reduction in stress.  There are many cliches out there for a true definition of this new life and I like this one:

Once the decision had been made that we were going to stop working and travel, that’s when the fun started! Both Bryan and I are well travelled both as individuals and together and we both have a passion for the Mediterranean lifestyle.  So, what better way to start our adventures that by an extended road trip through Europe to embrace the local lifestyles and enjoy the outdoor life in the wonderful sunshine of Portugal, Spain, and France.
